GENERAL MEASURING GUIDELINES - ALL STYLES
- Types of Cushion & Pillow Cover Construction - Use the descriptions below to determine the type of cushion/pillow covers you are measuring:
- Box - Cover consists of three sections - top, botton and a strip going around the cushion.
- Soft/Mock box - Cover consists of two sections - top and bottom only. Allowance for thickness is provided by pleats to gathers in the corners.
- Wedge - This type of cushion has a knife-edge at the top and box or mock box construction at the bottom.
- Knife-edge (throw pillows) - Cover consists of two sections and comes to points in the corners.
- Measure along the edges of the covers. Do not measure across or over the top of the cushion unless specified.
- Don't mistake the width with the length. Zippers should always run along the width of the cushion.
- If your cushions have welt edges, do not include the welt in your measurements, unless the covers CANNOT be removed.
- Measure as accurately as possible. Do not add to your measurements.

HOW TO MEASURE
SOFT OR MOCK BOX CUSHIONS.
Measuring the length and width
- When measuring the length and
width on these types of cushions, you need to be careful not
to overlap the measurements. Since these types of cushions do
not have a defined edge along which to measure, here's some tips.
- Place a straight pin or mark at each corner. Place the marks on the welt or seam.
- Use the marks as your starting
or stopping point for your measurements.
- Measure along the edge, as shown.
Do not measure over the top of the cushion.
|
 |
|
Measuring the height
or thickness
- If your cushion has a zipper
along the bottom or back, check to see if it has a seam that
runs across the ends of the zipper. If there is, measure along
this seam to determine the height or thickness.
- Another way to determine the
height or thickness is at a corner.
- Mark the outer-most tips of
the pleats or gathers as shown, then measure from mark to mark.
- DO NOT add to this measurement.
The result will be a cover that is too large.
|
 |
|
Measuring "T"
or 1/2 "T" s
- Mark the inside and outside
corners, then measure from mark to mark.
|
 |
|
Throw Pillows - Knife-edge Construction
- #1 - Measure along top edge, from corner to corner.
- #3 - Measure from top to bottom along the edge.
- NOTE - If your pillow has pleats or gathers in the corners, it's a cushion. See Soft/Mock box cushions above.
